Top 10 Recital Rules For Audience Members

With summer fast approaching many studios are preparing for end-of-school-year recitals. An important aspect of a successful piano recital is the observance of proper recital etiquette. Below are the top ten rules that audience members should observe when attending a recital.

The Audience:

(1) Arrive on time, or a little early. When audience members arrive on time it provides the best opportunity for the performance to begin on time. Arriving a few minutes early will also allow for time to get a program and to get seated. In fact, those who arrive early usually get the best pick on seating.

(2) Limit perfumes or colognes. While perfumes, colognes and scented body lotions do smell good, in a recital/concert setting it is NOT considered appropriate to wear strong smelling scents. Many people have allergies to perfumes. So, out of respect to the other members in the audience it is considered proper etiquette to limit, or refrain from, applying scented items on your body or clothing.

(3) Sit QUIETLY and listen to the performances. The role of the audience is to provide appropriate support and encouragement to the performer, and to receive enjoyment from the performance. As such, it is expected that audience members follow some basic rules:

* No talking, loud whispering, or humming along during a performance. Additionally, noisy candy or cough drop wrappers should be avoided! This can be very distracting to the performer and can (especially in young students) cause problems in the performance. It is also quite distracting for audience members.

* Remain seated during the performance (no wiggling or walking about), and only leave between pieces if absolutely necessary.

* No gum. Smacking and chewing noises can distract other audience members. And, gum dropped in a recital venue can create a “sticky” mess. It is best to use (quiet) breath mints instead.

* No whistling, yelling, or other loud methods of congratulations should be done, especially prior to the performance. If a performer is focused and ready to play, but becomes distracted with the “cat-calling” and “whooping” it can really throw off his performance. While boisterous congratulations are meant to show support for the performer, it may actually cause unintended problems instead. The best way to show appreciation for the performance is with thunderous applause, and an occasional “bravo” at the end of an especially great performance.

(4) Go to the bathroom BEFOREHAND. If it becomes absolutely necessary to leave the hall during the recital it should be done quietly and between pieces rather than in the middle of a piece.

(5) No flash photography. If pictures or video are allowed in the recital it is best to stand in the back and be as unobtrusive or noisy as possible. And, cameras should have the flash turned off. Random and/or unexpected flashing of cameras (along with the clicking noises) can really distract a performer.

(6) Turn off your cell phone or other electronic devices. It’s obvious enough that phone ringing and beeping is very distracting to the performer and the audience alike. It is necessary to save the texting and talking for after the recital is over.

(7) Attend the entire recital. Leaving early is not considered proper etiquette. All of the performers have worked hard to prepare for the event and all deserve equal respect and courtesy (i.e. a full recital hall).

(8) Clap appropriately. In addition to providing applause in congratulations it is also important to remember to only clap at appropriate times. For example, a multi-movement piece should only receive clapping when all of the movements have been played. Also, in piano recitals it is NOT considered appropriate to clap after an especially brilliant passage has been played. Instead, applause is reserved for after the performance is over (or when the performer first enters the stage).

(9) Dress appropriately. Unless otherwise indicated in the invitation the general rule on recital attire is for it to be clean, not have holes or tears, and be more dressy than a tank top or casual t-shirt or other other overly casual clothing (like short jean skirts or shorts). A good practice is to dress as if going to church or on an interview.

(10) Most important of all is to enjoy the music. Creating an environment which allows all audience members to listen to the performances unhindered will result in an enjoyable and valuable experience for all involved. After all music is fun! It should be enjoyed.

There are many benefits to learning, teaching and applying proper recital etiquette. Recital etiquette is an important social skill that audience members should know and practice.

How Does Roku Work?

The Roku player is a small black box. Physically speaking, it will most likely be the smallest device sitting on your entertainment center. It measures one inch in height, and less than five inches wide and deep. It is comparable to the size of a few CD cases stacked on top of each other. Despite its small size, Roku is a very powerful device for streaming online video to your television.

How Does Roku Work?

When most people think about a device which plays video, they assume there is a physical storage required for the video. For example, to watch a movie on a DVD player, you need a DVD to insert into the DVD player. Similarly, to watch a video you have downloaded, you will need the video to be stored on your computer’s hard drive. Roku has broken the mold in this regard. Since Roku players stream video, they do not need a disc, hard drive, or anything to store the video. This is what keeps the device so small and simple. As long as you have an internet connection and a TV, you can be watching thousands of titles in a matter of minutes.

Roku Streaming Technology

The technology is similar to YouTube. If you’re familiar with YouTube, you know that YouTube videos are not saved to your computer. That would take up entirely too much space. Instead, the video is streamed in small compressed “chunks” of video data so there is minimal loading time. Roku downloads videos from various sources and plays them on the television screen using the same technology.

Roku Models

There are currently 3 Roku models: Roku HD, Roku XD and Roku XD S. The models vary in terms of features, so make sure to compare the Roku models first. Consider the features offered by each model and which features fit your needs before making your purchase decision. There are no recurring fees for owning a Roku player. Purchasing a Roku player is a one-time payment, and the rest is up to you. There is plenty of free videos available for viewing, or you may be interested in paying a small subscription fee for more video than you could ever watch in a lifetime! For example, Netflix and Hulu Plus, which are both available on Roku, offer thousands of movie and television titles which are available on demand.

Roku: What’s Included?

Every Roku player model comes with the following:

  • 1 Remote control
  • 2 “triple A” batteries (for the remote)
  • 1 Composite (red/white/yellow) A/V cable
  • 1 power adapter
  • 1 “Getting started guide”
  • 1 year warranty

Categories of Ethical Dilemmas in Business

First published in Exchange, the magazine of the Brigham Young University School of Business, the following twelve categories were developed to cover the root or cause of most ethical business dilemmas that one might encounter in their jobs. I have summarized them to keep them short and simple.

1. Taking Things That Don’t Belong To You

Everything from taking highlighters from the storage room, to sending personal mail through the mailroom, to downloading unauthorized games to play on your work computer fall into this category. A CFO of a major corporation took a cab from the airport to his home in the city. When he asked the cabbie for receipt, he was handed a full book of blank receipts. Apparently this dilemma of accurately reporting business expenses involves more than just one employee.

2. Saying Things That You Know Are Not True

When a car salesperson insists to a customer that a used car has not been in a previous accident, when it has, an ethical breach has occurred. When a clerk in a store assures a customer that a product has a money-back guarantee, when only trade-ins are allowed, another ethical violation occurred (and perhaps a violation of the law).

3. Giving Or Allowing False Impressions

There is an urban legend in which 2 CD’s were being sold on a TV infomercial that claimed that that all the hits of the 1980’s were on the CDs. The infomercial emphasized over and over again that all songs were performed by the original artists. When they received the CDs, upon closer inspection, they found that all songs had been covered by a band called The Original Artists. While technically true, the impression given by the infomercial was false.

4. Buying Influence or Engaging in Conflict of Interest

When a company awards a construction contract to an organization owned by the brother of the attorney general, or when a county committee who is charged with choosing a new road construction company is traveling around the state looking at roads at the expense of one of the bidders, a conflict of interest arises which might affect the results of that choice.

5. Hiding or Divulging Information

Failing to divulge information from the results of a study on the safety of a new product, or choosing to take your companies proprietary product information to a new job are examples that fall into this category.

6. Taking Unfair Advantage

Have you ever wondered why there seem to be so many product safety rules and procedures? It is primarily the result of laws passed by government institutions to protect the consumer from companies that previously took unfair advantage of them because of their lack of knowledge or through complex contractual obligations.

7. Committing Acts of Personal Decadence

Over time, it has become increasing clear that the acts of employees outside of work can have a negative effect on a businesses image. This is one of the primary reasons companies are minimizing social interactions or events, outside of the office, so that drug or alcohol related events can not be tracked back to the company.

8. Perpetuating Interpersonal Abuse

At the heart of this category of ethical misbehavior is the abuse of employees through sexual harassment, verbal lashing, or public humiliation by a company leader.

9. Permitting Organizational Abuse

When an organization chooses to operate in another country, it sometimes butts up against social culture in which child labor, demeaning work environments or excessive hours are required. It is at this point that the leaders of the company have a choice…whether to perpetuate that abuse or alleviate it.

10. Violating Rules

In some cases, people or organizations violate rules to expedite a process or decision. In many of these cases, the results would have been the same regardless, but by violating the rules or required procedures for that outcome, they can potentially scar the reputation of the organization they work for.

11. Condoning Unethical Actions

Suppose you are at work one day and you notice that a colleague of yours is using petty cash for personal purchases and fail to report it. Perhaps you know that a new product in development has safety issues, but you don’t speak out. In these examples, failing to do right creates a wrong.

12. Balancing Ethical Dilemmas

What about a situation that would be considered neither right, nor wrong? What should be done here? Should Google or Microsoft do business in China when human rights violations are committed daily? Sometimes an organization must balance the need to do business with any ethical dilemmas that might arise from doing business.

How to Develop a Magnetic Gaze That Attracts Anyone Anytime (Part I)

How would you like to have a gaze that attracts people to you? It becomes impossible to look away from your eyes. They magnetically attract others. Imagine that while you’re talking with someone from the opposite sex they just can’t look away. You have something that fascinates other people: profound and meaningful eyes. If no one complemented your eyes, they will just after you practice the magnetic gaze.

Who I learned the magnetic Gaze

I’m a scholar of the occult and esoteric disciplines. This was something that always fascinated me. At first only because it was different. But as I evolved on my learning I found out that the ultimate goal is personal development. That’s what I focus on: growing as a human being.

I devote myself to that in my life. I learn and practice what I think it’s useful for my development. Some things work, others don’t. I don’t discriminate things just because they come from a less than scientific background. And if they work for me, I teach to my students. Only after they make it work is when I consider that this thing is real and it works.

That’s what happened with the magnetic gaze. I first learned it when I was studying an occult discipline. Later I learned than magicians and witches were using it for centuries. In fact, in occult folklore it’s called “evil eye” or as the Italians call it “malocchio”. They call it that because the legend says that if trained correctly it has the potential to kill a person. This gives a whole new meaning to the sentence: “if looks could kill”.

This is one of those things that it’s a pure legend. I met many people who practiced this gaze for decades and not one of them could do anything of the sort or ever met someone who did. But they did have one thing: the most profound and magnetic eyes I ever saw. It’s like you can’t stop looking at them. It fascinated me and I had to learn it.

There are only a few books who teach this magnetic gaze, most of them are from the XVIII century who never got a translation to english and are out of print literally for centuries. On some of the modern ones, the authors present the teachings of this gaze as a way of influencing others, clairvoyance among other things. This is one of examples where authors greatly exaggerate human abilities. There’s many benefits to this gaze, but I’ve listed them mostly above. Don’t believe the hype or false claims. Practice and decide for yourself what is real and what is fiction.

Practicing the Magnetic Gaze

Since most books where you can learn this are rare or out of print and I truly believe in spreading the knowledge, I developed a free program that any person can follow in developing this gaze. It was based on many of those rare books and other things who were only passed on by oral tradition.

This week I’ll present you with the first task that you must do for 7 consecutive days. Keep in mind that once you start you’ll have to do it daily until it’s complete or else it will take a lifetime to master this simple thing. It shouldn’t take more than 15m to a maximum of 30m a day. If you decide to practice the exercises I will give you, use them at your own risk and most importantly, use your common sense. If you feel any pain or weird feelings, stop doing them. Remember to remove your glasses or contacts before you do any of these exercises.

Exercise 1 – The Fixation Look

Choose any small dot on a wall (every wall has them), or print a circle with a dot in the middle and glue it to a wall. The goal is to spend 3 to 5 minutes looking only at that dot without: 1) BLINKING 2) TWITCHING THE EYELIDS 3) MOVING YOUR GAZE ELSEWHERE and with EYES WIDE OPEN (open your eyes completely, the more the better).

Remember, don’t blink! If you blink you’ll have to start all over. Keep your gaze fixed on that dot; don’t look even an inch to the sides, it has to be precisely on that dot. Only this way you’ll develop that fixation look. It’s hard but practice makes perfect.

Some books says you’ll have to reach an hour. But it’s an exaggeration. It’s almost humanly impossible to pass the 30m mark with that steady gaze. 15m to 30m is more than enough for our purposes and is an achievable goal. Since you are just starting, for the next 7 days try to reach at least 3m, or 5m at the maximum. Only when you reach the minimum of 3m you’ll be ready to Exercise 2. Practice at least twice a day, and don’t despair if you can’t do it right away. It takes time and practice to do this.

The Importance of Family Love

I wonder if someone could explain this in words. No not at all, it is not easy to hold the weight of words describing family love. Yeah but someone can do the job nicely! The one who has departed from his family members or the one who is unable to see the beautiful faces of his parents and siblings. The one who has pulled up stakes from his family will surely realize later, that he has lost something worth caring. They all can feel the importance of Mother love in it’s intense form. They can realize the importance of father’s intimacy and the confidence of sharing tales with one’s siblings.

Though sometimes out of anger and wrath we behave unfriendly but it does not mean that we don’t care for each other. Family quarrels are bitter things but are of least importance. We should not care about these few bitter memories but rather we must think about the existing love within our family members.

Actually a family is the building block of a society. Many families when combined give rise to a social network. If the building block of a society is scattered then imagine the bitterness that spoils the whole society! But if the family members are linked to each other with the strong bonds of love and intimacy, a prosperous society will be developed.

Family members are amongst those few people in this present day world, who will genuinely worry about you. They will always be there for you, to fall back upon when you have been disillusioned with the outside world. Though at times it feels that they are interfering too much in your life, it’s only because they care for you. If sometimes you feel bad about them, do focus on your mistakes and errors and be sorry for them.

In family life, love plays the role of a magic bullet which helps you to overcome all the difficulties that come across your path. You are able to share all your sorrows and pleasures also with people who really love you and care for you! The love of your family is your ultimate confidence and strength, so take care of your family members and truly love them before it’s too late and you have to repent on your carelessness.

“There’s no vocabulary for love within a family, love that’s lived in but not looked at, love within the light of which all else is seen, the love within which all other love finds speech. This love is silent.”

Couples Making Love Positions – Positions For Better Love Making

In the Kama Sutra manual, it has recorded different kinds of love making positions that couples can adopt during sex. Some of the love making positions provides higher stimulation than the others and it will be good for you to try them out with your lover.

1. The Clip. This position is very easy to execute and it brings a lot of pleasure to both partners. The man will lie down with his legs outstretched. The woman will sit astride him and lean back, so that the man can play with her clitoris while she controls the thrusting movement. The man can just relaxed and enjoy the intercourse.

2. The 90 Degree. This position is best to be performed on a table, with the woman lying on it and her buttock at the edge of the table. The man will then enter her in a standing position. This position is ideal for the man to caress both her breasts as well as her clitoris. The woman should wrap both her legs onto the man’s waist and pull him to towards her. This will cause the pressure to increase, giving both partners stimulating pleasures.

3. The Doggie. This is a classic making love position and it is highly stimulating for both partners. This position starts off with the woman going down on all fours, using her forearms to support herself. The man will enter her from the rear, controlling the thrusting movement with his hips. This position will give a lot of pleasures to both partners as the deep penetration will not only grind and stimulate against the vaginal wall, but also the G-Spot too.

You should explore more love making positions with your partner to spice things up as there may be some other positions that both of you find highly stimulating.

Peeling Penis Skin – 7 Potential Causes

Dry, peeling penis skin can send any man into a state of panic, especially when there is no obvious cause. Flakes of skin falling away from the Johnson are not only unattractive, they can appear as a sign of poor health, not to mention causing serious discomfort.

Fortunately, in most cases, the underlying issue can be easily addressed. With the right treatment and a good understanding of proper penis care, the problem can be banished in a matter of days, leaving the skin soft, smooth and attractive.

Common causes of flaking, peeling penis skin

  • Friction. Dry masturbation or sex is a leading cause of peeling, stressed skin. Using a personal lubricant (one designed for the purpose) can reduce the occurrence of dryness and irritation of the penis.
  • Yeast infection. Candida yeast infections, also known as thrush, are one of the most common causes of peeling, itchy penis skin. Other symptoms of yeast infection include red bumps or sores, a burning sensation during urination, severe itching, and a whitish, lumpy discharge. Most yeast infections can be treated with topical anti-fungal creams. Although not considered a sexually transmitted infection, Candida is highly contagious and can easily be passed from one partner to another, so men who develop a yeast infection should encourage their partners to be treated, as well.
  • Balanitis. This condition refers to any inflammation of the glans – or head – of the penis. The inflammation may be related to yeast infection or poor hygiene. Keeping the area clean is essential, especially for men who are uncircumcised, and topical creams may be used to treat the pain, itching and flaking caused by the infection.
  • Phimosis. Men or boys who are unable to retract the foreskin may be diagnosed with phimosis. The tight foreskin may develop a dry appearance, especially if it is stretched during an erection or as a result of masturbation or sex. Phimosis can often be treated by gently pulling the foreskin back a little at a time; applying a high-quality moisturizer can be of assistance in this process. In some cases, doctors may recommend circumcision as the best solution.
  • Sexually transmitted infections. Certain communicable diseases can cause dry penis skin that flakes and peels. Men who are sexually active should be tested for STIs on a regular basis and follow through with any recommended treatment.
  • Dermatitis. A skin sensitivity to something in a man’s environment – from laundry detergent to fragrances to latex condoms or spermicides – can cause the skin to become irritated, itchy, and dry. Avoiding potential skin irritants can eliminate this problem, and using a soothing vitamin cream when irritation does occur can help to clear up any issues.
  • Psoriasis or eczema. Men who have psoriasis or eczema elsewhere on their bodies may also develop dry, scaly or red patches of skin on the penis. Vitamins A and E are often used as natural solutions for these issues; hydrocortisone creams are also frequently prescribed, but caution is advised in this case, as steroid creams can cause thinning of the delicate penile skin.

Any unusual penis symptoms are best tended to by a doctor who has experience in men’s issues, especially if the owner of the package is not sure what is causing the problem. In some cases, such as communicable diseases, prescription medications may be required to clear up the problem.

Dry penis skin should be allowed time to heal; abstaining from sex until the cause of the issue has been identified can prevent further damage and discomfort. In addition, applying a penis health creme (most health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil) containing penis-specific nutrients such as vitamins A and E can help to nourish the skin and speed the healing process. A good penis cream containing natural moisturizers such as Shea butter is ideal for even the most sensitive skin; applying the cream after a shower is best, as this allows for rapid absorption for maximum benefit.

6 Reasons to Cancel or Reschedule a Party

Canceling or rescheduling a party is a very unfortunate event but often it happens as the result of uncontrollable circumstances. Knowing how to deal with the situation is of uttermost importance.

Party cancellation is disappointing and difficult to handle but a number of reasons will demand it, regardless of your intentions. Here are a number of reasons for the cancellation or rescheduling of a party and some information on addressing guests and cancellation etiquette.

People Can’t Make It

You will have to reschedule or cancel your party if too many guests are incapable of attending. Everybody wants to share big events and beautiful moments in life with dearest friends. If these people have difficulties making it to the party, choosing another date will certainly be the wisest move.

You may consider informing people about the change in person. Call everyone and you may even inquire about another date for the party to be held on.

A Storm is Coming Up

Weather can play a trick on you. It may interfere with your party planning attempts. You should reschedule your celebration in case a severe storm or another kind of meteorological disaster is expected – intense rain or snowfall, thunderstorms. It certainly is wiser to organize the party in the future than to put at risk the health and life of your guests.

Personal Tragedies

Á personal tragedy that you or one of your dearest friends has experienced is another reason for the cancellation of a celebration. Postpone the party in the case of death or illnesses of family members. It will be inappropriate to have fun while somebody you care for is mourning or feeling sick.

That Major Event

A major event taking place on the date when you plan to have your party will be yet another reason for cancellation. Postpone the party if somebody else is getting married on that date or if it is the anniversary of a couple you love.

Important city events – concerts, gatherings or sports finals may have you thinking about moving the party to another date, as well.

Illness

Cancel the party in the case of an illness or a medical condition. This is yet another unexpected and uncontrollable factor that will interfere with your plans and the organization process.

It could be a personal condition or a disease affecting someone you love and respect. You should better have the celebration after that person gets better – this way you will have two reasons to bring people together and to party.

The Reason for Partying Has Disappeared

Sometimes, things fail going according to plan. Such sudden changes and unexpected turns may call for the cancellation of a party.

A baby shower will certainly be cancelled in the case of a miscarriage. This huge, personal tragedy changes plans and demands for rapid reaction.

Party planners should always have a backup plan. Very often, life handles us surprises that we have difficulties coping with. Party cancellation or rescheduling may be tough but it certainly is needed in various instances. Knowing how to be flexible will help you deal with the situation.
